Pub Talk: Speaking God [through art, poetry, & mystery]

  • Full Pint Wild Side Pub 5310 Butler St. Pittsburgh, PA (map)

Join us at our March Pub Talk as we explore "Speaking God" with Scott Holland. What do we find at the intersection of poetry, art, mystery, and the Divine? Theopoetics! Theopoetics seeks to find ways of speaking of God beyond doctrine and systematic theology to more artful and poetic expressions. It is not merely poetry but instead an imaginative, intuitive and more artful way of naming ourselves and rendering God's name in history.

This month we're excited to partner with Pittsburgh Theological Seminary to learn from Scott Holland and imagine together more artful and poetic ways of expressing faith, theology, and our own experiences with divine mystery.

About our speaker: Scott Holland is the Slabaugh Professor of Theology & Culture at Bethany Theological Seminary in partnership with the Earlham School of Religion, where he has just launched a new MA in Theopoetics & Writing. He is a senior contributing editor at CrossCurrents Journal in New York. He divides his time between Richmond, Indiana, Yellow Springs, Ohio and Pittsburgh.

About Pub Talks: We welcome a variety of speakers, artists, and musicians exploring the intersections of faith, culture, science, art, politics, and justice. We seek to draw on the best of public house history-- a place to share a drink, build community, and discuss pressing issues of the day.

**Pub Talks are FREE and open to the public. We provide light appetizers. Drinks and other food can be purchased at Full Pint. We are so grateful for Full Pint's hospitality, and encourage all Pub Talk attendees to make purchases and tip well.
